About our San Rafael insulation contractor business

Who we are, how we work in lived-in homes and what happens after you call.

From new houses to lived-in San Rafael homes

I started out insulating new houses, where the walls are open and nobody has moved in yet. That's where I learned how insulation is supposed to go in. In 2023 I started Comfort San Rafael Insulation Services to do the same work as an insulation contractor in San Rafael, CA, in homes where the attic already has old insulation, somebody's boxes and a few surprises.

Lived-in homes taught me the rest. If the gaps around lights, pipes and the attic hatch stay open, or the old insulation is soaked or full of droppings, new insulation on top doesn't do much. So we fix and seal the attic first, then add what it needs. That's what we're best known for, and you can see the rest of our work on our home page.

Most of our calls come from owners of older homes with a cold room, a high power bill or old insulation they don't trust. I'd rather tell you your attic isn't ready than sell you a job that won't help. Three years in, that's still how we work.

What you get when we work on your house

We're licensed and insured, and these are the things homeowners notice once we're in their attic. Each one comes from doing this work in houses where people are living.

Your attic gets fixed first

We find what's wrong before we add anything. Wet or dirty old insulation comes out, and the gaps around can lights, pipes and the hatch get closed up, what we call air sealing, so the new insulation isn't fighting a draft. We keep the eave vents clear too, so the attic can still breathe.

One person from estimate to finish

The person who looks at your home is the person running the job. I see your attic, write the estimate and then stay on site while our crew does the install, so nothing you told me gets lost between the first visit and the work.

Straight answers on what's worth it

If part of a job won't help, I'll say so, even when that makes the job smaller for us. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, but sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill usually makes more sense, unless your ductwork runs through the attic.

How a job goes from call to cleanup

Here's what happens from your first call to the day we pack up. It works the same way whether you need a whole attic redone or a few gaps sealed.

  1. 1

    Call or send a message

Call (628) 234-2144 or use the form on our contact page and tell us what's bothering you, like a hot upstairs or cold floors. We reply to every call and message within one business day.

  2. 2

    Get a free in-person estimate

I come out myself and look at the attic or crawl space before I write anything down, including how many inches are already up there and what shape they're in. The estimate is free and comes with no obligation.

  3. 3

We prep and do the work

If your job needs a permit, we pull it through the city or county office that covers your address and set up the inspection. Then our crew covers your floors, keeps the dust contained and does the install with me on site.

  4. 4

    Walk through the finished job

We clean up before we go, show you what we did and tell you when it's fine for the family and pets to be back in the space. The work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
